Every 12 years, Texas Sunset Commission reviews state agencies to ensure they remain efficient, effective, and responsive to community need. This year, multiple agencies that directly impact the lives of children and families have gone into review, including the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), and Department of State Health Services (DSHS). Through this review, public feedback shapes key recommendations which are then provided to the Texas Legislature in the form of Sunset Bills, resulting in the merging, abolishment, or revision of these agencies.
Texas PN-3 Collaborative has engaged community members and stakeholders across the state to ensure the diverse needs of Texas families are addressed through this unique cycle. Together, we have selected three distinct strategies of policy recommendations for the Texas Sunset Commission to consider ahead of the 90th Texas Legislature.
